Washing Your Diapers
Gone are the days of lugging around a smelly diaper pail full of water
and bleach!  Today's cloth diapers are easy to clean.  Below you will
find our basic washing method, things to avoid, and how to keep your
diapers looking as good as new!

Basic Washing Method:
There are many different ways you can wash diapers, but here is a
simple method that works for us.  It can be adjusted for water types
and personal preferences.

  • If soiled, shake excess in toilet, rinse with mini sprayer, or dunk in
    toilet.  (Whatever method you prefer)
  • Toss into dry pail; plan on washing every other day.
  • Wash no more than 18 diapers at a time.
  • Use the highest wash settings.
  • Run a large cold water rinse cycle 1st.
  • Wash in hot water with Tide regular detergent.
  • Hang dry or dry in dryer, or combination of both.

Diaper Washing Don'ts:
There are several products you want to avoid when washing and
caring for your diapers.

  • Chlorine bleach.  Chlorine breaks down the fibers of your diapers,
causing them to wear faster.  Also, it may irritate your baby's
    sensitive skin.
  • Fabric softeners, "Free and Clear" detergents, and Dreft.  These
can leave an oily residue on the diapers and cause them to not be
as absorbent.  We recommend using TIDE original or Allen's
Naturally Detergent.  Cheer, Era and Charlie's Soap will also work.

Keeping Your Diapers As Good As New!
There are several things you can do to keep your diapers as fresh
and clean looking as as the day you got them!

  • Hang dry your diapers.  Drying in the dryer is harder on the fabrics
and velcro.  Also, sunlight is a natural bleaching agent that will help
remove stains and "freshen" your diapers.
  • Sun even in cold weather.
  • Add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to wash to help whiten.
  • You can also add baking soda to the wash cycle, which will help
    neutralize oders.
